Our 2011 Christmas Letter

2011 has been a great year for The Nixons. I have never done this type letter before but I thought I would start now and make it a yearly tradition.

In February we celebrated Banks first birthday. What a sweet child he is. I always thought my boys would be exactly alike but they are so differant. Banks second birthday will be here before we know it. He talks so much and plays rough. Last week he got his Big Boy bed and is doing great.

April came and I turned the Big 3-0...I am 30, been married 6 years, and have two kids...wow! I still love my job with the March of Dimes and am so greatful to be able to work from home. 2011 was a great fundraising year and I look forward to what 2012 will bring. Working to help babies be born healthy is a mission I am truly passionate about. Having two babies in the NICU was a very difficult experience.

I am so proud of Mark and his success with his new job with Farm Bureau...We were able to take Grant on an all expense paid trip to San Antonio TX in July. This was his first time flying and first trip to Sea World. Our resort was beautiful...the pool side movie was fun along with the lazy river that surrounded the pool. Can't wait for our Couples trip to Banff Canada in March!! Way to go Mark.

July also was Grants birthday..5! My child is 5 and in Kindergarden at WS. He is learning to read and making great friends. I am so happy he is at the same school I spent 12 years in. He is an awesome child and we are so blessed to have him in our lives.

After moving to "The Delta" it took me a year without getting emotional thinking of Madison..I really missed the City, our Church, and friends there. Along came August of 2011 and we purchased a new Home. I never in my life imagined I would have an Avon, MS address...but we absolutlty love it here. 15 min one way to my parents and 10 min the other way to School. It just works perfect for us!

The rest of the year has just been busy with the boys, haloween, thanksgiving and the wonderful 25 Days of Christmas. Oh and the news of baby Catelynn..Coming in May.

I will try to post pictures of the past year in my next post but for now...Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

it's been a while....

Wow..July 25 since my last post. I have been telling myself weekly to update the blog but something else more important always comes up. We have been really busy...now NOV 3 and it feels like back to school is finally slowing down...Grant played soccer for the first time this season and well....he didn't LOVE it, but he liked it. Grant was more interested in playing with grass and picking flowers for me..needless to say i am glad its over until spring. He really likes WS and loves his teachers...Mrs Trammell and RoRo.

Latest Funny-...Grant and some other classmates were playing school on the playground when Suzi Paige (the teacher) found a cup and told Grant (the student) to tee tee in it behind a tree while she held the cup. They got caught...how funny this will be to tell when they are both in high school. I am sure that Mrs Trammell talked with both of them about how inappropriote this was.

Then there is Banks...he is 8 months old now, 6 teeth, crawling, and not far from walking. He is ALL OVER the place. I would love to say that he is sleeping all night but that would be a lie....he did for a short period of time and now gets up several times....wearing us all out! Grant and Banks love each other...I can tell that Banks wants to be just like big brother and do everything Grant does. I wish he would slow down and not grow up so fast.

Quick update on the BOYS

Grant just turned 4! He is so excited about Washington School and playing soccer this fall. His new favorite movie is Toy Story...all three of them..He has every character from the movies and plays with them just like Andy does on the movie...Sometimes I feel like Woody is sad when Grant takes Buzz on a trip with us instead of him....

Grant loves living in the Delta and sadly never talks about Madison and missing it at all. I still get sad when I think of all his sweet friends and school he went to. He loves his little brother and sometimes gets a little rough but Banks just smiles at him...like "I'll get you back one day..just wait".

Banks is 5 months old....his birth still feels like yesterday. He has adjusted well to the new house and will never know the differance. He is the happiest baby ever...smiles more than anyone I know...he will even smile during an emotional breakdown if you look at him and say "hey little booga booga"' he has been eating baby food for several weeks now and love fruit....vegtables..not so much. he can roll over and weighed 13 lbs at the last dr. visit...I am thinking he is at least 15lbs now... We will find our next week.

I love these two boys so much...I am so proud of both of them and can't believe how sweet they both are...

Moving "Home"

I am excited that I can finally announce that The Nixon Crew is moving back to the Delta. In the next few weeks we are moving to Chatham, MS aka Lake Jackson to raise our kids "in the country". This is something Mark and I have talked about for a long time but did not see happining this soon. It is kinda bittersweet to me because I really love Madison and First Baptist Childcare Center...Grant has made some great friends and it breaks my heart to take him away from them....I have planned his birthday party for June 19 (one month early) so he can celebrate with all his friends here before we move.

Grant will start Washington School in August and I am so excited to see him grow there the same way I did for 12 years. Mark starts on July 1 as a Farm Bureau Agent for Washington Co. and I will continue to do what I love and raise money for the March of Dimes.

3 Months!

Three Months....oh my! Banks is the sweetest baby. He has such a differant personality than Grant..I can tell he is going to be a tough little mommas boy. He is sleeping through the night and has been off and on for several weeks. I have been feeding him a little fruit here and there (a little early) and he loves it. He is a great eater but still has reflux and spits up ALL the time. It does not seem to bother him so we just wipe it up and keep on going.

I am having so much fun with my two boys! I really don't know what I would do with a girl.

2 months and Hospital Stay

I guess since I am spending night 2 at Blair E Batson Children's Hospital with my 9 week old....I will blog.

Banks is two months old now and started daycare on monday...four days later he is in the hospital with a fever virus. Lovely! On Thursday night he woke up with 103.5 fever and of course I was waiting outside as Children's Medical Group opened on Friday morning....Much to my surprise Dr. Ellison said he needs to go straight to Batson...Since he is so little and on had 1 round of shots he is really not vaccinated from anything so they had to treat it like it the worst... When we arrived they took a blood culture, urine culture, and spinal tap to check for various infections...after 24 hours they cultures are still fine...It is Saturday at 10:00 and we just began our 24 hour fever free count down...Looks like it will be at least monday morning before we will go home.

I had never been to this hospital until I started working for March of Dimes and after making a few visits to some volunteers here I told myself...I hope my children NEVER have to come here...Kids just aren't supposed to be sick...

I am thankful for just a fever virus because I have seen some much sicker kids roaming these halls...One little girl had her door open and they whole room was decorated to look like her room at home...She has been here for a long time and is not going home anytime soon. I don't know what is wrong with her but I can't imagine how her family dealing with daily hospital for such a long period of time.

At Seven weeks Banks got his first set of immunization shots and weighed in at 9lbs 8oz....at Nine weeks he weighed 9lbs 10oz...not much weight gain in three weeks...I hope that is ok.

Magdalena's Feet

I met the Robert's Family a little over a year ago but never got the chance to meet their sweet Magdalena. Julie was scheduled to speak at my March for Babies kickoff lunch on a Thursday in January but the Tuesday before sweet Magdalena went to be with Jesus. Her funeral was held the very hour of our luncheon and Julie had a good friend come to replace her to speak about the Life of Magdalena.

They have become great friends and volunteers of the March of Dimes since the day they discovered their daughter would be born with Edwards Syndrome (Trisomy 18). In 2009 Magdalena's Feet team raised over $17,000 for March for Babies and are on track to do the same in 2010. BUT....they need your help!

In just a few days Banks will be 1 month old...He is the sweetest, most laid back baby. Not at all the strong willed child that his NICU nurse said he was....He only hates cold wipes :) Banks is a good sleeper and an even better eater. He has been eating 3 oz ever 3-4 hours since he has been home..I can't wait to weigh him again because I am sure he is almost 7lbs now. We spent a few days in Glen Allen last week with my parents...Grant needed some farm time and Mark and I went to a crawfish party at the lake.

I can't wait to watch my boys grow up together. I hope they are close to each other and play like best friends.

Grant will start his first Sport in April...We are excited about Start Smart Baseball...and can't wait for soccer next fall!!!

We're Home...Family of Four

After 7 long days in the NICU...we are now home and officially a family of FOUR. First night went great....(after i discovered the nipple did not have a hole in it) Something always has to go wrong after dark..

Well this has been an eventful week. I am going to do my list of events in bullet form so it won't seem like I am rambling on and on.

Day 1- High Blood pressure stayed over night in Labor and Delivery recieved Magnesium.

Day 2- Moved to postpardum to be watched for a day.

Day 3- We thought we were going home but Dr. Cole wasn't sure about my blood pressure just yet so she said that morning that it would be at least another night. During her nightly rounds my pressures had gone back up (even after increasing meds two times). She immediatly said lets go back to Labor and Delivery and watch you overnight and have this baby in the morning. OK...so I was here alone because Mark had gone to take care of some things but was on his way back...I called him and told him to hurry back and to go ahead and tell our families. Within a few minutes my blood pressure had risen to 200/116 so it was decided that we would be having the baby within 30 minutes. Missy and my sister in law Deanne were the only ones here when Mark brought Banks out for his first appearance.

Welcome Alexander Banks Nixon...7:14 pm, 5lbs 14oz, 18.5 inches

Our parents just did not have time to make it. Banks was taken to the NICU where they started a Cpap to help him breath a little better. I was given another round of Magnesium overnight since my blood pressure had gotten so high again.

Day 4- That morning was a little crazy...too many meds at once = my blood pressure to drop really low...I was a little loopy for a while but by lunch I was back to the postpardum floor and go to go see Banks for the first time.

Day 5- Still in hospital trying to relax, recover, and visit with Banks in the NICU

He is doing well breathing through a nasal canula only and recieving some iv fluids...I think we are just waiting for him to slow his heavy breathing down, and start drinking milk and gaining weight...then we will be coming home. That could be maybe 4 more days I am thinking...maybe more maybe less.

Looks like we will be here in room 103 until Sunday or Monday.

It is not much easier the second time around in the NICU...I keep seeing these babies being brought to the mommas room as i am being wheeled to intensive care.. I can tell Banks knows who I am...he responds when he hears me and opens his eyes when I am holding him.

Everything happend so fast,...I have had my first emotional breakdown today. And I am sure there are more to come.

Snow Day = not much rest

I will start with saying that the snow today was Beautiful. I have always loved winter and snow, although we have not seen much of it in MS...ever. I do remember as a child a couple differant "snow days" where we would go to the levee and slide down the side of it on various homeade sleds....and then ride on them behind the four-wheelers... I am so glad that Grant got to see so much snow...this may be his only time. He woke up today and after looking outside at the snow...asked me "Where's the Christmas tree?, I love Christmas". So cute and innocent.

On the other hand....today was not the easiest day to be on bed rest...School was closed and Mark was home. I of course had to play outside in the snow for a little while, then had to deal with an extremely hyper 3 year old. Mark has been helping out alot but today I think he thought he was the one on bed rest...I did more than I should have today and now feel really exhausted at 6:30 pm...

Britney and Laura brought us supper tonight....we ate early and it was Great...I love anything that I don't have to cook. I am about to relax in a warm/hot bath with Grant's watermelon bubble bath and think about the beach and summertime...then go to bed.

( I will be missing the Rodeo tommorow.. :( Since I am on bed rest Mark has invited his dad to take my ticket...They will have a great time and maybe I will have some silence...)

Greetings from Bed Rest

I have been on bed rest due to PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension) since January 28..so 9 days now...I think..I've lost count and don't really even know what day it is....Sorry Mark..but as I type I am laughing out loud at how LOUD Mark is snoring...I think he may be choking. He wen't to the doctor this morning and has Strep throat...I had hoped we might have a few "normal" alone days before the baby comes but this looks like all were gonna get...

My job is still very important to me even though I am at home for the remainder of my pregnancy....you see, I am the coordinator for the Tri-County March for Babies fundraiser that supports premature birth, birth defects, and infant mortality. You all know that Grant was born premature and I hope and pray that this next little guy stays put for at least 5 more weeks... Because of my condition it makes me want to work harder to raise money for research to find out WHY ARE BABIES BORN EARLY? and what can be done to stop it. Especially for those moms who do go to every appointment and dont drink, smoke or do drugs..

I need your help! if anyone reads this....My goal as the employee of the March of Dimes is to raise $135,000 for this one event....and since I am not at the office or out in the field....i must raise money from BED REST.

Grant Update

I guess I need to keep record of what Grant likes and the funny things he does or I will simply forget. So this update is for my records and just for your entertainment.

Grant is 3.5 years old with a baby brother almost here!!!
Things he likes:

Superhero's and dressing up in costumes.
Airplanes, Firetrucks, Boats
TV...he will watch most anything but loves Clifford the Big Red Dog, The Incredibles, Dora and Deigo of course
Cheetos, Gerber Graduate Cereal Bars aka pop tarts, chocolate pudding, Chicken nuggets, and sprite. Thats about all he eats.
He loves playing in the bath tub...i can put him in and sometimes he will stay an hour and play with his toys.
Loves his John Deer Boots and spending time at both Pappa and Paws shop.
hates anything girly....i tried to put my scarf on him the other day to play outside and he was not having it. "i'm not like you, i'm like my daddy"
He is becoming more aware of others size, shape, age, and color...and expresses his thoughts loudly.
can burp loudly after every sip of a drink...
loves his friends at school.
can't wait to meet his brother
has an imaginary friend...well its his little boy and he is 5 and his name is Inkcard.
we still have the Yellow Blanket...only there are just two of the corners that work...the others he says are too big

i am sure there are many more things but i just cant think anymore right now....

Alex update:

I am 28 weeks pregnant up 11 pounds and found out this week..well today... that in addition to my high blood pressure I now have gestational diabetes...I would have never guessed it and I am still surprised. Unhealthy foods are my weakness and having to eat better and change my diet...while being pregnant...will definatly be a challenge for me. I will need support and prayers... Whatever it takes to keep this baby healthy...I CAN DO IT! We definalty don't want to see the inside of a NICU again...I know from experience that you can't decide your birth plan.

and he shall be called.... Alexander Banks Nixon "Alex"

The name Alexander comes from Marks Great Grandfather and Banks comes from my Great Grandmothers middle name. Family names are really important to us and this is what we could agree on for baby boy number 2. If you ask Grant he will say "My baby's name is Alex but I like Garner". We have several months to get him used to the name. Garner was my first pick but it got the ax!

I am 20 weeks and 3 days now...so half way there! Hopefully the holidays will help speed the process up...we can't wait to meet the little guy and see his face... What in the world would another little boy of mine look like...Will he have any hair? Will it be dark and curly?

Keep us in your prayers....we hope 34 weeks will come and go...I know the NICU nurses are nice but i really don't want to spend any time with them this go round.

Just kidding....you should know its not time yet. I am only 11 weeks today! As you can tell, I am itching to find out the sex of our newest baby. With the Canton Flea Market, Misteltoe, and all other shows...how can I shop without knowing.

I had my second appointment this week and everything went perfect. I was fortunate to have another ultrasound so I got to see just how much the baby had grown in 4 weeks....He/She has arms, legs...and everthing now and was just dancing and waving to me. Too bad Mark missed this appointment the picutres just don't show that personality that I saw. Heartrate was 171.

For work today I had an appointment with Olga's (russian restaurant) about our upcoming Signature Chefs Auction. She insisted that there was an older lady that worked in the kitchen who was never wrong about predicting the sex of a baby. The poor lady was drug from her smoke break outside to come look me over and say quickly...."It's definatly a Girl". I guess in about 6 weeks we will find out if she was right.

Grant....I can't post without mentioning Grant. He is just fine. His first couple weeks of preschool were kinda tough on all of us...He was staying in trouble but seems to be doing good now. He loves his new friends and still talks about his freinds from the 2's. He is excited about being a big brother but I think he is tired of waiting. He asked me yesterday if the baby popped out at my appointment.

Big Brother!

April 3...is the big day. I am quite sure this baby will come before then but for now it is April 3. We are very excited about adding another member to our family. Grant wants a little sister really bad and I hope he won't be too disappointed if it turns out to be a boy. I guess because Grant thinks it is a girl that is what I am leaning towards but then again I can only imagine myself with all boys.

Due to the Medical Mystery as to why Grant came 6 weeks early, Dr Cole is keeping close eye on this baby. She is awesome...by the way. I will have an ultrasound at each visit so hopefully we will find out what we are having around October 9 (15 weeks). My blood pressure was a little high at my first visit but has seemed to stay down since then. Maybe I was just nervous/anxious.

Mark has not given me the official approval yet but I have decided on both boy and girl names. This baby will be named after the "New's" since we already have a Marcus Grant Nixon III. We can't just pick any random name with no meaning...family names only.

I attended my 10 year class reunion this past weekend and would love to post pictures but my computer has a virus and this page will shut down completly if I try to upload any...so for now...you only get to read. We had 30 out of 52 attend...I thought it was a great turnout. We had a great time catching up and I wish we could do it more often. I think there are 12 children with 3 babies on the way.

Grant had the best time at his 3rd birthday....He had several sweet friends from school come and lots of family. We love this little boy so much and are so proud of him everyday. I never got emotional the whole day until i put him in his bed that night...I can't belive he is three years old....that sounds so grown up...He's not a baby anymore...I want to thank everyone who came for all the sweet presents...our house looks like ToyLand! What are we going to do with all this stuff....

Wow...It has been a while since my last post! I guess I will try to post pictures as far back as Easter.....Only one more week until we go to Destin for 7 days! I can't wait...

Grant is growing so fast and is just Hilarious. I love having conversations with him in the car on the way to school every morning.

He will be turning 3 in a couple months and keeps asking.."is my birthday next..mama?" I think he is the youngest in his class..so we have many parties to go to before his! 2 this weekend!

Potty Training

Grant has been using the potty at home off and on now for several months. I decided not to push training him until his teachers at school were on board with it. Lately we have been trying to get him to go at school and he tells his teacher..."No...I not...I go at my house"

Today I picked up Grant from school and Ms. Opheia said that Grant used the potty today...I am so proud of him... So proud that Mark and I took Grant to "Chick e yeah"...Chick fil A for supper and to play in the playground...

A funny story from chick fil A was that a little girl about Grants age completely stripped down...butt naked in the playground...Her mom got her out before she squated to tee tee on the floor... Grant got his first strip tease....and i hope his last.

Economic Crisis

Melanie is a loyal customer of mine that has become a friend. As you read the above statement by Melanie, they have personally been affected by the need for such an organization as March of Dimes. And in reality, all mothers have benefited from the research and mission of March of Dimes. Your baby may not have been premature or had any birth defects, but if they had, you would have benefited from the research and resources of March of Dimes and most likely wouldn't have even known. Although your child may not have been born prematurely or had birth defects, chances are you know someone who has.

Melanie obviously believes in the mission enough to not only "Walk" for the cause, but she works for the cause in more ways than one. She does this not only for her child but for all babies that are born, whether they are healthy or need the unexpected medical care that March of Dimes supports and researches. I am personally grateful for supporters as Melanie who believes in this enough and cares about other babies enough to ensure that my and your baby can benefit from the mission of March of Dimes that he/she might would need.

When Melanie sent out an email about supporting Grant's Family Team in the upcoming March of Dimes, March for Babies Walk, I felt led to do something. On a personal note, my niece and 2 cousins were born prematurely and spent several weeks in the NICU. It was a reality for me that Abbey, Brennan, and Tanner also benefited from the research and mission of March of Dimes. After praying about what I could do to support Grant's Family Team, the mission of March of Dimes and all babies who need and will need March of Dimes, I decided to create a t-shirt in Grant's honor.

Since I can't use March of Dimes' logo, I worked with Melanie to create a t-shirt that represents Grant. She told me that he likes alligators and tractors. I searched the web for a cute alligator and found what I thought to be the perfect one. With Melanie's approval, the t-shirt above is what we created. Please keep Noah and Julie Roberts in your prayers. I was very saddned to here their daughter Magdalena passed away this morning. Magdalena was born in August with condition called Trisomy 18. Most babies born with this do not make it but for a few hours. She was a very strong baby and touched the lives of so many during her short life. The family was scheduled to speak at our March for Babies Luncheon this Thursday as our 2009 ambassador family. Last Spring Julie joined March of Dimes March for Babies after discovering at a routine visit that Magdalena was high risk and raised over $3000. Her team has raised over $800 this season so far and supports our mission to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth, and infant mortality. Christmas Update

Christmas has come and gone...again! Grant was alot of fun this year really begining to understand what happens durning the Christmas season. While it was fun telling him all about Santa Claus and finding out what toys he wanted this year...it was also fun begining our own tradition of celebrating the birth of Baby Jesus by purchasing a birthday cake for Jesus. We enjoyed the birthday cake after dinner on Christmas eve and again Christmas day...

I spent several days at my parents after Christmas while Mark was working/hunting...During my visit I got to see several friends from High School that I have not seen in a while and experience my first taste of Food Poisioning....from the mexican place in Greenville. My stomach is still a little queezy so don't ask me to eat mexican for a long long time. I am glad to be home.....and Grant is enjoying all his Christmas toys...

Part-time job opening...Great Pay!!

I know that most of you reading this are Mom's and may even stay at home with your kids... The March of Dimes has a part-time position open right now!!! We need to fill this position immediatly...

From January to May is our March for Babies fundraising season...The open position will only be during this time...for 15-20 hours a week. We are looking for a Family Teams Specialist. This job would require you to work with our existing families that raise money for March for Babies as well as recruite and train new family teams to fundraise and/or raise money online. The job would be really easy seeing as though we have so many freinds that have healthy babies and some that were born a little early and some that may have not survived.

The pay is excellent...and I am sure we all could use some extra money

March of Dimes is the Champion for all Moms and Babies!!!
The Tri-County March for Babies will be held May 2 on Highland Colony.

I took Grant to his first Movie yesterday. This being his first time I was a little nervous that he may not use his "inside voice" or sit still. I was very supprised and pleased that he did Great!!! The cutest part was that he hardly weighed enough to hold the seat down. His feet were almost over his head! Grant sat through the whole movie so happy and excited. I forgot just how good Disney movies were...even for parents. They always throw a little adult humor in.

First of all...We did not get there until 8oclock...which is after Grant's bedtime. Maybe I just can't control my kid but the terrible two's came out in full force. Without going into much detail...it was real crowded, grant wanted to run free, and we spent enough money on the big yellow slide that I probably own part of it now. The slide is the only thing Grant was interested in.

It was sweet to see Grant so excited about all the lights and rides...But without Mark there it was hard to keep up with him and push a stroller and hold my big purse and his sippy cup and my drink. Special thanks to Kris and Deanne to help entertain for a while.

We got home at midnight..and I think we might go back this afternoon with some friends...

I took a sewing class earlier this week to learn how to make Grant some cute pants. I had such a good time and pants are really easy to make...I still have not mastered getting the right length for Grant....but the two I have done turned out really cute. The brown and blue pair are really about a 12 month...If anyone is interested in them...They don't fit Grant. I was going to use a white turtlenetck with the solid brown for a Letter Applique. Stay tuned I will be making two more pair today and the fabric is so very cute!!

My Granny wanted to buy me this puppy in the walmart parking lot but my mom (ME) did not want a puppy and all that comes along with it...Animals are more complicated than babies and can be just as expensive. Anyway..It was fun to play with him...I asked Grant what his name was and he said "Green"...Ok...whatever...Green is the only color he knows..We think he may be color blind...Anyone have any experience with that??? And I do think it may be time for another haircut!! :)

HAPPY BDAY BECKETT...He had his first birthday this weekend.. We had alot of fun...after we quit crying about eating cake. Yes...grant cried for the first 30 min because he did not want to wait to eat cake...I was so embarrassed that I looked like I had a spoiled child that I could not control....anyway we had a good time and got to play with lots of new friends

Such an imgination....Mark was so worried that since we live in Madison that Grant would never love tractors and the country as much as we did. I don't think he has anything to worry about. Grant loves trucks, tractors, combines, cotton, corn, beans, and the lake...He crys when we leave...

Mark and Grant were trying to play hide and seek in his closet...I found them!!!!

New roller skates...This was a one time thing with these. The box says 2 yrs+ but I still think they are a little dangerous. Mark was not excited at all that I even let him put them on. Sorry he is naked.... I guess we will put these up for a year or two...(Thanks Daniel for giving us these at Grants B-Day)

This morning Mark and I were getting ready for chuch..in a hurry...as usual. It is amazing how much a two year old pays attention to his surroundings without you ever knowing it.

Mark was getting dressed and I was brushing my hair. Grant dissapears into the other room for a minute and comes running back in like this......

And says...."I go Church" He had run into the kitchen where Mark had a tie hanging by the back door. I guess he sees other men wearing ties at church and put that together. I thought it was cute...I think everything he does is cute. He wore the tie all the way to church and then I took it off. I guess I will go to walmart and get him a cheap clip on tie to play Church at the house.

A group of us went riding on the Mississippi River Sand Bar this weekend. We had so much fun. I sat down to post pictures from the ride but realized that Mark took my camera to the hunting camp. Yes I said hunting camp, and yes it is raining outside. Is it hunting season yet? I didn't think so. We start early around here. Grant and I will be alone probably every weekend until Feb. so if anyone wants to hang out or shop or play or whatever....give us a call. We'll be around!!

So far so good with First Baptist. He has been really happy everyday this week when I go to pick him up. He really does not want to leave...he loves all the new toys and his new best friend Braxton (Thats who Ms. Jamie said he plays with all day). Friday was our last day at Cobblestone Day Care. We really love all the ladies who took care of our little guy since he was 5 months old. I will say his favorite teacher that he talks about all the time is Macy Woods. She is 17 and just left for her freshman year at MSU. Go Dawgs!! We just found out last week that she actually graduated from Manchester and knows Mark's mom and his cousin Ryan Milner. Small World!! Grant says every morning now..."Macy gone gone" It is really sad. I love anyone that is sweet to my baby:)

We will begin our next journey at First Baptist in Madison...This will be closer to our house and I think they have more of a School-Like schedule. Hopefully he will learn more, make new friends, and have a great time.

I know it will take time for him to adjust...Any little change to a two year old seems HUGE. Please keep us in your prayers as we all make the transition to First Baptist. He starts on Monday.

Just a quick funny....

Grant has just started saying a few sentences and they are just too funny. We went to the Braves game with a group from church Monday night. We brought blankets to sit on in the outfield because there were no seats. I was sitting on the blanket with Grant waiting on Mark to come with our drinks and Grant stood up and said "I'll be back". Like where are you going Grant? I don't think you are old enough just to take off on your own.

I had just never heard him say that before and thought it was funny.

I just returned from Scottsdale Arizona after a long HOT week. The temperature there was 109 at 10:00 pm. Very Hot! We had our March of Dimes National Summer Staff Conference there at the Biltmore Resort and Spa. It was a very nice resort...and very large. It took me 10 minutes just to walk from my villa to the conference center. During our stay we were visited by our national celebrity "Ride" spokesperson. Ride is a motorcycle fundrasier that is done in most states (not MS yet). Dee Snyder from the 80's band Twisted Sister is our celebrity spokesperson. Yeah...I was thinking the same think you are right now...Who is Dee Snyder and who was Twisted Sister? He spoke one morning at our general session about how he became involved with March of Dimes, then came back that night for our Kareoke party. To our suprise he agreed to perform a song for us. "Born to be wild" is the song he sang. Now I know who he is... I know this is not real exciting but I thought I would share a picture we took. Also our Celebrity Chef spokes person was Chef Rock (the winner of Hell's Kitchen). He taught my Signature Chefs Training Class. I have a picture of him to....

Bad Bad Alligator

Mark and I have been discussing how we are going to get Grant to give up the Papi (pacifier). Yesterday after lunch I took it from him. When Grant came to me sayng "I want papi" I told time that the Alligator ate it and took it to Embry Claire's house because she is a baby and needs it. He was a little sad but manged to make it through the day. Bedtime rolled around and he started whining about his papi and the alligator. I even caught him searching through his diaper bag looking for one. I read him a bedtime story and told him again that the papi was "all gone". To my suprise he slept all night without it.

Well....This morning he started crying while watching cartoons saying "alligator...my papi alligator...my papi" I feel really bad because he is very sad about it, but i don't know how else to take it away...Is it too soon?

When we got to school this morning we told Mrs. Cyndi (his teacher) what that bad bad alligator did. Grant got upset again. I am sure she will get sick of the whining and give him a paci today and not tell me. They will do anything to keep them quite...I guess I don't blame them.

I can't believe that Grant will be 2 in just two weeks (July 18). It seems like yesterday that I found out I was pregnant. We are so blessed that he is healthy now. For those of you that don't know...Grant was born at 34 weeks and spent the first 10 days of his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Woman's Hospital. He actually made an appearance at his baby shower in Glen Allen. I was not able to hold my first child for three days and had to leave the hospital without him. I look at this silly two year old now and can't believe he used to weigh only 5lbs.

My roomate from all 5 college years got married a couple weekends ago in Birmingham Al. We had a lot of fun during all of the wedding festivities. She was a beautiful bride and everything went great....Excecpt for the Homeless man yelling during the ceremony that he was going to get a dollar from all of us....Here are a few pictures from the weekend. As you all know, the March of Dimes is near and dear to my heart. The foundation that I have chosen to work for is amazing, and what we do here at the March of Dimes is as simple as giving every baby a healthy start. I know Grant (born almost 2 months early) benefited from the research of the March of Dimes.

Unfortunately, the word “simple” isn’t so accurate when you talk about prematurity and the health of babies. 1 in 8 babies are born premature in the state of Mississippi. This is significant when thinking of all the health problems that these babies have, the emotional strain of the parents, and the potential loss of a child. The March of Dimes is the champion for all babies. I am asking each of you to help me with my cause. I work for the March of Dimes, but I am also a volunteer. I believe in our mission, and I believe that we can make strides that ensure that one day all babies are born healthy. The March of Dimes originally set out to conquer Polio- and we did… now it’s time to solve this epidemic. Help me in giving every baby a healthy start!

My Mid-Delta March for Babies went well..We raised about $30K and still more to come. I developed some great relationships and can't wait to work with them again next year. We were getting ready to leave Glen Allen on Mother's Day when we had to stop and see the alligator. This one is actually small compared to ones we have seen over the years. I am glad we got pictures for Grant to see later. His first Gator!!

My 27th Birthday was Wed. Mark and I had not planned anything for that night since we had eaten out and shopped on Sunday but at work that day everyone made me feel like I was supposed to do something special on my birthday no matter what we did the days before. So...around 4:30 I planned my own birthday dinner by sending out a mass text inviting my friends to eat at Papitos. I knew it was short notice and did not think many would come but to my suprise we had a nice table of 18. 14 adults and 4 kids. It is so weird now that we have a table full of kids...I did not take any pictures but Missy captured this one of the Mexicans singing Happy Birthday in Spanish...Embry Claire and Grant just smiled at them...and thought they were so funny.

Grant's Stomach Bug

Well...Grant and I got dressed and ready to go home for the weekend last friday morning. We were in such a rush to get to Vicksburg so I could drop something off to a March for Babies team and forgot to eat breakfast. Being a great mom...I thought I would get some Chicken Mini's from Chick Filet for my sweet Grant. As we were on the ramp to I-55 (not .5 miles from Chick filet) Grant threw up the first bite he took and continued to puke whatever he had for supper the night before. I had to pull over on the interstate to clean him up....needless to say! Some sweet woman stopped to give us a box of kleenex...Thanks whoever you were! This stomach virus lasted for 5 days. I had to take Grant to work with me on Monday...He would not eat anything but had a great time with a can of sprite and a mardi gras cowboy hat. He is better now and we are all happy!!!
